In 1997, Expandia took over Zemská banka, a.s., based in Olomouc. The goal of this acquisition was to create the first bank in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe providing its services via the Internet and a mobile phone. Zemská banka was capitalized by Expandia and
renamed Expandia Banka. Starting at 4th May 1998, Expandia Banka became a leading bank in the field of services via the Internet and a mobile phone in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe and it gained a lot of prestigious awards and prizes.
In 1999-2000, Expandia sold off its capital interests in Expandia Banka to Česká pojišťovna. The bank now operates under the name eBanka, a.s. and is a member of Raiffeisen group.
